第五版前言自2011年3月北京大学出版社发行的《语言学教程》(第四版)问世后,转眼已是6年。如从1988年的第一版计算,则达29个年头,逼近而立之年。随着时光的流逝,世事变化,历历在目。即使从第四版后的五六年期间,我们目睹了各个领域的许多重要事件和颇具创新意义的变化。习近平主席在2013年9月和10月分别访问哈萨克斯坦和印度尼西亚时提出共同建设“丝绸之路经济带”和“海上丝绸之路”的历史性建议,从此吹响了“一带一路”的号角。为此,国家需要大批具有家国情怀、国际视野、全球意识和跨文化沟通能力的人才,这便包括各种语言人才,汉语的和外语的。从这个视角,《语言学教程》对培养高质量的语言人才应当起到它应有的作用。在此期间,我们也可以看到科学技术的迅猛发展,特别是信息技术的发展。最近几年,互联网、微信、脸书等多种电子通讯手段为各种思想文化的传播,提供了更加便捷的渠道。这必然涉及语言学的各个分支,如词汇学、语音学、句法学、语义学、语篇分析,以及社会学、心理学、语境学等学科知识的掌握和运用。机器翻译的正确率和普及率最近几年有很大提高,是目前人工智能中最活跃的一个研究领域。机器翻译是建立在语言学、数学和计算机科学这三门学科的基础之上的。语言学家的职责就是提供适合于计算机进行加工的词典和语法规则,数学家则把语言学家提供的材料形式化和代码化,计算机科学家给机器翻译提供软件手段和硬件设备,并进行程序设计。因此,我们的教材应当及时反映这方面的变化,语言学的和其他有关符号学的知识。从教育系统来说,我国义务教育、高中教育、大学教育、职业教育、研究生教育都在深入进行各方面的改革。各种思想的构建、表达、沟通和传送,都离不开语言。在教学方法方式方面,我们会发现许多教师一方面采用各种先进技术进入课堂,另一方面通过网络直接进入社会,如网络课程和慕课。这是上世纪的教师和语言学家所未能想象的和掌握的。所有这些表明修订此教材的重要性和紧迫性。出版社、编者、教师、学生都有一个共同的心愿:让这本教材随着时代的变迁继续茁壮地成长,更好地为我国的教育事业服务,培养更多的受过高等教育的人才。在上述思想认识的基础上,第五版主要做了如下的改动。(1) 改写。第3章的题目改为 Words and Morphology(词和形态学),并对主要内容进行了改写,使内容更切合本科生的水平和国内外同类教材的内容。第11章第6节有关语料库在语言教学中的应用在内容上也有更新。(2) 增添。这是本次修订的重点,使《教程》反映国内外语言学科的最新研究动向和成果。主要增添内容如下:—gesture(音姿),这是对语音生成中除音素和音位外,可以通过图谱描写的要素。这方面的研究在国内刚刚起步。(2.1.1)—Text(语篇)和 Coherence(连贯)及其描写。这有助于帮助学生提高对语篇本质和生成的认识。(4.7)—对Metaphor(隐喻)提到了 Lakoff等2003年在理论上的重大调整(6.11.3);对Blending Theory(融合理论)的论述更为详细。(6.13)—对文化与语言研究的关系增加了词汇及其故事,语法及其变化,和新称呼方式的内容。 (7.1.4)—在社会语言学的实用意义方面,增加了社会语言学与语言教学、法律、医生-病人对话等内容。(7.2.4)—对跨文化交际的内容增加了图示和说明。(7.3.1)—在语言的使用方面增加了A SocioCognitive Approach(社会认知法)的章节。(8.3.4)—在计算机辅助教学方面,增加了最近几年国内正在推广的MOOC(慕课)教学的章节。(10.2.3)—在使用计算机进行交际方面,增加了Facebook(脸书)和 WeChat(微信)的内容,特别是后者在国内不同阶层的人群中已广泛使用,世界注目。(10.5.4)—在语言教学和外语教学的第11章增添了一节Foreign Language Education Policy(外语教育政策)。国内政府部门、不同层次的学校、家长和学生对我国的外语政策都非常关注。(11.7)—本世纪出现的Appliable Linguistics(适用语言学)理论对如何构建、发展和评价各种语言学理论具有高度的指导意义。(12.3.4)(3) 简化和删除。为了给新增内容提供空间和适当控制本教材的篇幅,本次修改对某些章节略有简化和删除,这里不一一赘述。参与第5版修订的专家如下:第一章李战子南京国际关系学院教授第二章史宝辉北京林业大学外语学院院长、教授第三章彭宣维广东外语外贸大学教授

《语言学教程》自1988年首次出版以来,改版五次,印刷九十余次,发行量达二百五十万册。目前已被国内高等院校普遍作为英语专业本科、硕士语言学方向必修教材以及考研必读教材,并吸引了大量对语言学感兴趣的非英语专业读者。
《语言学教程》(第五版)在第四版基础上听取广大师生意见修订而成。包括语言学理论介绍、语音、词汇、句法、语义、语言与认知、语言与社会文化、语用学、语言与文学、语言与计算机、语言学与外语教学、语言学流派等十二章。此次修订充分汲取国内外语言学研究的最新理论和成果,特别是信息技术的迅猛发展带给语言学各分支的冲击性的变革和发展,更为全面而系统地阐述了理论和应用语言学领域的内容,阐述方式深入迁出、脉络清晰,利于教师课上教学和学术课下自学。
本教材另配有中文译本和练习册,并为使用该教材的老师提供免费的教学配套课件。
北京大学资深教授、博导,系统功能语言学的代表学者, 清华大学双聘教授、北京师范大学兼职博导。被42所大学聘为兼职教授或客座教授。完成专著 4部,主编7部,合著、合编14 部,译著1部、论文206篇。
《语言学教程》自1988年首次出版以来,改版四次,印刷八十余次,发行量达二百万册。目前已被国内高等院校普遍作为英语专业本科、硕士语言学方向必修教材以及考研必读教材,并吸引了大量对语言学感兴趣的非英语专业读者。是国内权威的语言学教材,具有较高的社会影响力和教学、科研认可度。此次改版,编辑部事先通过网上信息搜集、访谈等方式,就一线教师和学生对该教材的使用情况进行了调查。后经本书主编、副主编和出版社方面的讨论,一致达成如下修改方案:
1. 难度上不做大的变动。2. 全书的总体框架不变,章节不变。3.根据一线教师的需求,一方面在教程中增加一些生动的,贴近生活的例子来解释、说明专业术语和理论;另一方面,内容更新,与时俱进,就近些年来语言学研究的新发展和新热点加以补充和阐释,如将近些年来很热点的认知语言学部分进行扩充等。但从页数考虑,全书增加的内容版面要限制在第四版的10%以内。4.排版时缩小行距,使用英文版式,减少页数。以便定价让学生更能接受。
